Is ACH real-time?
ACH transactions are processed in batches of individual transactions and are not considered “real-time” transactions. This “batch processing” contributes to the lower transaction costs associated with ACH processing compared to other payment methods, such as credit cards, which are considered real-time transactions.
Can I send and receive funds via ACH?
Yes, ACH transactions may be utilized to either debit or credit bank accounts. An ACH Debit transaction occurs when the originator is attempting to collect funds from an account, such as electronic bill payment. An ACH Credit transaction occurs when the originator is attempting to provide funds to an account, such as payroll direct deposit.
How long does it take to get approved?
Typically it takes 4 to 5 days from the time we receive your completed application to complete the underwriting, set up your accounts, and complete the initial training in the use of our product. This time may be shorter for less complex business, and longer for more complex businesses.
What does ACH cost?
Pricing for ACH transactions may vary from one provider to another. At United Check Services, we typically price our services based on a fixed fee per each ACH transaction that we process on your behalf.
Some ACH processors charge fees in a similar manner as credit card fees, also known as “discount fees” or “discount points”, which represent a percentage of the face amount of the transaction. This often results in a higher cost to the merchant than would be obtained with fixed transaction pricing. Fixed transaction pricing is typically based upon a combination of risk and transaction volume.
Start-up businesses are typically more risky than established businesses. Businesses engaged in online non-face-to-face transactions are typically more risky than those engaged in face-to-face transactions. Businesses with large average ticket prices are typically more risky than ones with small average ticket prices. Businesses that experience a higher volume of returned transactions are typically more risky than those with low return rates.
On the other hand, businesses with larger volumes of transactions typically obtain lower transaction prices than those processing fewer numbers of transactions. At United Checks we typically provide a preliminary price quote based on information provided by the merchant.
